Half A Star
Jasmine Bates as "Anna"

Jasmine Bates first started acting with the Hills Youth Theatre when she was 8 years old and performed in over 15 shows with them. A highlight for her was the role of Captain Sophia in their adaptation of 'Robinson Crusoe'. Since then she has been in several productions with the Stirling Players. Her first was the small but enjoyable role of Nancy in the Victorian thriller, ‘Gaslight’.

She then played Sharon in the English cricket farce ‘Outside Edge’. Most recently she played the role of Karen in the Curtain Call Award winning ‘It’s My Party (And I’ll Die if I Want To)’.

Jasmine has been tap dancing and learning various other styles of dance since she was 8. Mostly she danced in Hills Youth Theatre productions, but also took part in dance concerts with Essential Talent. Jasmine is taking a break from dance lessons at the moment due to time constraints but hopes to get back into it soon enough. Tap dancing came into great use for her with the role of Lynn in ‘Stepping Out’ in 2004 with the Hills Musical Company.

Despite not being a very good singer, Jasmine has managed to sneak into several musicals with the Therry Dramatic Society. This includes the Curtain Call Award winning ‘Little Me’ and most recently ‘Gigi’ where she danced the can-can with fellow ‘Closer’ actress, Eleanor Stankiewicz.

When she isn’t acting, Jasmine studies IT (Networking) at Tafe and is due to complete her course in June this year. She also works as a receptionist at University Senior College and is hoping to travel in 2010. Jasmine loves any chance to be on stage and is very much looking forward to playing the role of Anna in ‘Closer’.
